Rebecca Smith Earns Spot On United States National Team

July 1, 2008

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - Former Holy Cross rower Rebecca Smith (Class of 2002) has been selected to represent the United States at the 2008 FISA World Rowing Championship, scheduled to take place from July 22-27 in Linz and Ottensheim, Austria. She will compete in the lightweight women's quadruple sculls.

Smith earned her spot on the national team with a first place finish at the 2008 World Championship Trials, which were held from June 24-26 on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J. Along with her Vesper Boat Club teammates Libby Peters, Wendy Tripician and Hannah Moore, Smith won the lightweight women's quadruple sculls by more than seven seconds with a time of 6:39.83.

During her time at Holy Cross, Smith served as team captain for the 2001-2002 season, and was a member of the varsity eight that placed first the ECAC National Invitational. She also received the Honorable John P. Cooney Memorial Award, as the senior letter winner who performed beyond all expectations with courage, loyalty and dedication.
