Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's soccer team scored solo goals in each half and hung on to defeat Quinnipiac University, 2-1 in a non-conference game on a cold and rainy Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Crusaders snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 6-4-1, while the Bobcats slip to 5-6-2.

Sophomore Alex Cruz put the home team up 1-0 early in the first when he stole the ball at the QU 40-yard line, dribbled his way past two defenders, and flicked a shot over the head of Bobcat keeper Conor Shilcock-Elliot at the 7:00 mark. Holy Cross took the one-goal advantage into halftime, despite outshooting the Bobcats, 6-2 in the first.

The Crusaders then went up 2-0 just six minutes into the second stanza when freshman Sefton Kincaid scored on a free kick from 25 yards out after a Quinnipiac foul. Kincaid blasted a shot to the top-shelf, beating Shilcock-Elliot for the eventual game-winner.

The Bobcats battled their way back and made things interesting when junior Jadir Barbosa collected a loose ball and scored a scrappy goal in the box to cut the lead to one. The Bobcats had a handful of chances late, but Holy Cross keeper Richard Whipple came up with two saves, and was aided by an open-goal header that went just wide.

The Crusaders travel to Pennsylvania on Saturday in a crucial Patriot League match-up against Lafayette. Game time is 1 pm.
